Sanctuary was the first broadcast quality, HD dramatic series designed specifically for the Internet. Technically it shows high production values and is shot with a star cast (Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne and Emilie Ullerup) performing live action sequences against a green-screen backdrop.
The subject matter is science fiction and it built a loyal following. In the first season (2007) it was released as a series of webisodes and included interactive features such as Flash gaming and social networking. In the second season (2008) it has transformed into a linear format and is released on cable television outlets such as the Sci Fi Channel in the USA and ITV in UK. It joins the growing ranks of web-to-TV success stories like Fat Guy Stuck in Internet, Venus Rises and Stranger Things.
