The Media Development Authority (MDA) was created to focus on and develop Singapore's media industry. Formed from the merger of the Singapore Broadcasting Authority, the Films and Publications Department, and the Singapore Film Commission, on 1 January 2003, MDA handles various initiatives, developments and standards for television, film, video, radio, publication and new media.

 

In August 2006, the Interactive Digital Media Research and Development Programme Office (IDMPO), hosted by MDA, was set up to coordinate a multi-agency strategic IDM R&D Programme, for which the National Research Foundation has allocated $500 million over five years.
